As of 2010, the United States Census noted the town’s population as 26,747. Covering an area of 21.66 total square miles, Basking Ridge is home to the headquarters of many notable corporations such as Verizon, Avaya and Barnes & Noble College Booksellers. Parks and Recreation
This wonderfully pastoral region is distinguished by two national parks, 60,000 acres of state parkland, and a landscape dotted by lakes, rivers, hills and farms. Somerset County is part of New Jersey’s picturesque Skylands Region, an area of Northwest New Jersey that includes Hunterdon, Morris, Sussex and Warren Counties.
With its five beautifully-maintained parks, Basking Ridge offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy a multitude of sports such as golf, tennis, cross-country skiing, swimming, horseback riding and other activities year round.
Lord Stirling Park has an Environmental Educational Center that offers nature programs and more than eight miles of trails for hiking and stables for horseback riding.
Rebel Hill Park provides two tennis courts along with a soccer/softball field and a community playground.
Southard Park offers picnic facilities, sports fields, fishing, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court and shuffleboard/bocce ball courts. Ice skating can be enjoyed during the winter months, and don't forget to bring your dog along to enjoy the dog park.
Harry Dunham Park is a family park offering hiking and walking trails, disc golf, a roller hockey rink, picnic shelters and a playground.
Pleasant Valley Park offers an amphitheater and a multitude of sports facilities for both individuals and teams. It is also home to the town pool.
The Somerset Hills YMCA also boasts an olympic sized indoor pool, fitness center, and much more that is available to the people of the community.
Along with its parks and recreation, Basking Ridge is well-known for its rich historic flavor, with many local attractions cited on the National Register of Historic Places. These include The Brick Academy, The Basking Ridge Classical School, The Alward Farmhouse, Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church and Lord Stirling Manor.
Shopping and Dining
Regarded as the main downtown district of Basking Ridge, South Finley Avenue is a charming, tree-lined street with old homes converted into bustling shops and businesses. This thoroughfare is also home to several churches and restaurants. Year-round arts and crafts fairs, antique shows, exhibits and festivals are commonplace throughout the town and the surrounding communities.
Basking Ridge features an array of shopping, dining and entertainment options to suit every taste; whether it’s European or ethnic-inspired cuisine, pizza, steak, seafood, sandwiches or burgers, there’s something to satisfy every craving.
In addition to flagship stores Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor and Macy’s, Bridgewater Commons offers more than 170 different retail shops in which to find that very special something. Located in nearby Bridgewater, the Commons also features a great food court. Next door, the Village at Bridgewater Commons is the place to find the latest retail companies to join the marketplace, all in a landscaped courtyard setting.

For fans of theater, the Pied Piper Theater performs a wide variety of stage productions throughout the year.
Sports fans have plenty of options for entertainment in Basking Ridge. Golf fans can visit the USGA Golf Museum in Far Hills, with its premier collection of golf artifacts and memorabilia. The new facility, the Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History, opened in 2008 following a major renovation and expansion. Just a short 20-minute drive from downtown Basking Ridge, the Somerset Patriots Minor League baseball team plays home games at the beautiful 6,100-seat TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ.
If it’s on ice, it can be found at the Bridgewater Sports Arena. Whether its figure skating lessons, ice hockey clinics, competitive team play or public skate nights, the Arena is the place for skate fans of all ages and skill levels. Non-skaters can enjoy the excitement of arcade games, climbing wall or laser tag.
Located 15 minutes away in Gladstone, the United States Equestrian Team Foundation offers a training center as well as support for equestrian athletes.
