Dunellen is a Borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2010 Census, the borough population was 6,737.

Dunellen was formed as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1887, when it broke away from Piscataway Township,  incorporation was confirmed in 1914.

Dunellen is a small town with an area of approximately one square mile.   There are 5 parks in town, plus bus and train service, their own school system, close proximity to major highways, close to New York City, and within 40 miles to the Jersey shore.  The crime rates are low and they have a volunteer fire department and rescue squad.  A mix of downtown, residential and a little industrial still remains.     

Dunellen Borough is a compact residential community that provides a convenient hometown lifestyle.  Scattered retail activity in the borough meets daily conveniences.  This mature, well-developed area is constantly revitalizing its downtown district.  Nearby county parkland, rivers for fishing, hiking and biking trails, and local parks are available for recreation.

The Dunellen Public Schools serve students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are John P. Faber School (grades K-5), Lincoln Middle School (grades 6-8) and Dunellen High School (grades 9-12).

The Dunellen station offers New Jersey Transit service on the Raritan Valley Line.  A simple station, there are two tracks with two small side platforms.

NJ Transit bus service is provided on the 113 and 114 routes to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.

- The Rock Ice Pavilion (Chimney Rock Ice RInk) - The Rock Ice Pavilion  is a modern sports facility with one full size sheet of ice, video games, full service restaurant and hockey shop located in Dunellen.  Home to the Jersey Penguins, New Jersey Huskies, Bridgewater-Raritan High School Team and The Pingry School hockey team, while maintaining an ongoing relationship with various local programs and the New Jersey Devils.

- Dunellen Theater & Cinema Café - billed as New Jersey's original cinema café, is located on 458 North Avenue, preserving the old Dunellen Theater built in 1920.

Historically, Dunellen grew directly related to the railroad station, which was originally called New Market Junction, serving the nearby village of New Market in Piscataway Township.  Originally the tracks were level with North Avenue and the railroad line was the Elizabethtown and Somerville Railroad.  The station was called Dunellen in 1869.

With the railroad, industry came to town in 1925 when the large Art Color factory was built.  It was Dunellen's principal industry and produced 10,000,000 magazines a month.   The W. F. Hall Printing Company of Chicago bought Art Color in 1931, and ran it until closing the plant in 1968.
