Deal is a Borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and as of the 2000 Census, the borough population was 1,070.  A small oceanfront borough, Deal comprises just 1.2 square miles.  Deal was incorporated as a borough in 1898 by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Ocean Township.

Almost entirely residential, the affluent community of Deal is situated directly on the Atlantic Ocean coastline and is bordered by Long Branch, Ocean Township, and the borough of Allenhurst.  Residents of the community share an appreciation for coastal living and water sports.  The borough provides local parks for relaxation, picnics, and sports play close to home.

The Deal School District serves public school students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.  Deal School, located at 201 Roseld Avenue, was selected as a "Choice School" beginning with the 2011-2012 School Year.  As of the 2002-03 school year, nearly 75% of students at Deal School attended from outside the district on a tuition basis, paying $4,300 per student, per year. Students came from the neighboring communities of Loch Arbour, Asbury Park, Ocean Township, Red Bank and Belmar.

3--Deal hosts miles 14 and 22 of The New Jersey Marathon (run in the spring, late April or early May).  Run through the diverse neighborhoods and business districts near the ocean of Long Branch and into neighboring Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Deal, Allenhurst, Loch Arbour, Asbury Park & Ocean Grove.  This out and back course is popular with both runners and spectators alike given the fast and flat course with exciting scenery and an oceanfront start and finish.

Historically, the English first settled the area in 1664. In 1670, a carpenter by the name of Thomas Whyte purchased a large amount of land along the coastal section of what was Shrewsbury Township. He named this area “Deal” after his homeland of Deale, England.

Until the late 1800’s, Deal was mainly a farming & fishing area. By the early 1900’s, much of the land of Deal had been purchased by developers and laid out for residential purposes.  They left very little space for commercial use, therefore the charm of Deal lies in the beautiful, well-kept mansions and lovely architecture.
